This game is about consistency, momentum, and beating the team you're supposed to beat. Typically, the Lions give the 'Boys a difficult time when playing in Detroit. Last week, Bill Parcells broke the curse against the Eagles, which gave fans hope and players the respect that has been lacking. With a tough schedule ahead this is a game the Dallas Cowboys must win to continue the improbable march toward the NFL playoffs.

It's been said many times that fans don't really understand the intricacies of NFL football. After all, we simply guzzle beer and eat pizza on Sunday while coaches spend restless nights in their office developing game plans. I must admit that there must be some truth to the theory because fans are still puzzled by the genius of Dave Campo when last year against Detroit the great Robert Thomas had more carries than Antonio Bryant pass receptions. Rest assured that will not happen this year under Bill Parcells. Dallas finally has a NFL head coach-- not a caretaker such as Switzer, Gailey, or the ultimate Bozo in Dave Campo.

Bill Parcells is aggressive. Dave Campo just talked about being aggressive, but in reality he was the ultimate example of "dink & dunk" football. Last year against Detroit on a third down pass Dallas called a timeout. Then, on the next play, Chad Hutchinson threw a three yard pass that was well short of a first down. Said the usually reserved Pat Summerall, who was announcing the game:

"They called timeout for that?"

However, thankfully, Dave Campo and Bruce Coslet are gone. In their place, an imaginative, consistent, and unpredictable offense has come to Big D. Against Detroit, look for Antonio Bryant, Joey Galloway, and Terry Glenn to run wild in a secondary that has allowed big plays. Also, look for Troy Hambrick to run for big yardage and get at least 20 carries and 100 yards. Quincy Carter should emerge with one of his most productive games, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the offense put over 30 points on the scoreboard in a rout.

On offense, I'd like to see the following against the Detroit Lions:

  • A running back taking a screen pass to the house!
  • A game plan where Antonio Bryant is more involved downfield.
  • Quincy Carter moving around in the pocket avoiding the blitz that will be coming.
  • No mention of-- "Troy Hambrick off left end for -3 yards".

On defense, I'd like to see the following against the Lions:

  • Roy Williams-- blitzing! Harrington must be pressured, and the front four needs to supply the rush.
  • Ebenezer Ekuban, his picture no longer on a milk carton.
  • Joey Harrington shouting-- "Oops".
  • Terence Newman shouting-- "Thank You, Joey".
  • Bradie James making a significant contribution.

Finally, I really expect this to be the Dallas wide receiver show. Coming off the huge win against the Eagles, the Cowboys have confidence, and now the swagger begins to develop. With the difficulties Dallas has had on the road against Detroit, it would be nice to see another Demon put to rest. My prediction?

'Boys 31 Lions 20
