Bradie James - LB - LSU - Fourth Round #103

Quoting Bill Parcells-- "I like linebackers. I collect 'em. You can't have too many good ones." Well, Bradie James is a good linebacker with size and a non-stop motor, which seems like a good match to me. The leader and enforcer of LSU's "James Gang" defense, he was a standout for a defense that allowed only 278 yards a game in the tough SEC. Second on the LSU all-time tackle list with 411, James earned first team All-SEC honors and was a semifinalist for the Lombardi and Butkus awards.

The Cowboys have a smallish linebacker group with Dexter Coakley and Dat Nguyen the only real established starters. Marcus Steele has shown flashes, but has yet to become the player that took on players with force. Despite the free agency signing of Alshermond Singleton to a four-year deal, depth at linebacker is still much needed. Nguyen has missed games due to injury, and Kevin Hardy left Dallas to join the Cincinnati Bengals. In my mind, the current group is hardly "a collection".

The LSU coaches speak very highly of James, too."He makes us look like good coaches that's for sure," LSU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said.

Bradie James is probably as fine of a person as I have had the opportunity to coach," LSU coach Nick Saban said. "He's done as good of job from the leadership standpoint as anybody I have been around as a coach. He's played outstanding football for us all season long and probably (the) most consistently."

The Dallas Cowboys do not own a draft selection in Round five. Round Six will be released on, or about, April 13, 2003.
