Carson Palmer - QB - USC

Palmer looks to be their guy, although trades for this spot could become active as the draft nears. Last season David Carr went #1, and was simply dominated by the defenses in the NFL. Nevertheless, going for the franchise quarterback is never a bad ideas. If the Bengals don't throw Palmer to the wolves right away, he could develop into the quarterback so desperately needed by the franchise.

Charles Rogers - WR - Michigan State

At this point, this is the lock of the draft. The Lions have their new coach in Steve Mariucci. Now, they draft their Terrell Owens. Joey Harrington needs a weapon at wide receiver, so what better selection for Detroit than a star from Michigan State.

Andre Johnson - WR - Miami

When you invest in a franchise quarterback, you should invest in his protection. That's what the Texans did when they selected Tony Boselli in the expansion draft prior to last season. However, due to injuries, Boselli sat on the sideline while David Carr was sacked an incredible 76 times. Despite the signing of Zach Wiegert, the Texans absolutely must build an offensive line to protect Carr. Doing otherwise is jeopardizing Carr's health and the investment of last year's #1 overall draft selection. However, the Texans may be looking more at wide receiver. Only once last year did a receiver catch passes for more than 100 yards. Andre Johnson is the choice here with his awesome pre-draft workouts.

Dewayne Robertson - DT - Kentucky

The Jets traded for this selection. Now that they have made the deal, they know either Robertson, Newman, or Andre Johnson will be available here.

Terrell Suggs - DE - Arizona St.

Their greatest need is on offense. However, I don't believe in the drafting for need theory. You draft the best player available. Otherwise, the stars are double-teamed leading to ineffectiveness. Suggs will allow Glover more freedom, and provide the pass rush that has been needed since Charles Haley retired. A strong pass rush can hide mistakes in the secondary-- and change the momentum of games.

Terence Newman - CB - Kansas State

The Cardinals lost the Jake Plummer to Davis Boston connection-- and received no compensation in return. Newman is the best cornerback in the draft, and the Cardinals play it safe after losing out on Suggs. A quarterback will be high on their list in round two.

Jimmy Kennedy - DT - Penn State

Their pass rush was terrible, which led to late game exhaustion. The Vikings must build a defense that's in shambles with this draft. Rumors of a wide receiver are simply a luxury that cannot be considered.

Byron Leftwich - QB - Marshall

Mark Brunell is getting old, and Leftwich is a guy that can make Fred Taylor even more dangerous. Will help attendance, too.

Jordan Gross - OT - Utah

A very nice selection here! Gross should have gone to the Texan at #3 since they are a building franchise from the rubbles. Still, so are the Panthers.

William Joseph - DT - Miami

Teams were able to run on the Ravens. For a unit that was the best at stopping the run just a short time ago, this is unacceptable. A good unit only gets better with his addition. Rumor has it that the Ravens are looking to trade this selection-- perhaps to the Viking for quarterback Daunte Culpepper. If that's the case, the Viking would give serious consideration to either Leftwich, Grossman, or Boller at some point in this draft.

Marcus Trufant - CB - Washington St.

In-state players are always popular selections. Cornerbacks are also popular selections when you face the 49ers and Rams twice each season. Trufant has run under 4.4, so he can stay with the swift receivers in the division.

Kwame Harris - OT - Stanford

When Orlando Pace went down with an injury, so did the Rams. It's unbelievable this team missed the playoffs. They won't with Harris and Pace anchoring the line.

Kevin Williams - DT - Oklahoma State

The Bears will grab this 300+ run-stuffing monster that won't take any crap. A Quarterback is high on the list at #22.

Rien Long - DT, - Washington State

They have the luxury of fixing a problem where teams ran the ball up the middle too easily. Bill Belichick prides himself on stopping the run, and Long will do just that.

Eric Steinbach - G - Iowa

As it stands now, former Dallas lineman Kelvin Garmon is a starting guard for the Chargers. Enough said...

Johnathan Sullivan - DT - Georgia

The run of defensive tackles continues. The Chiefs had the near botched trade with Dallas last year. This year, they stand their ground and select another tackle to slow down flow of points given up in such a startling rate. If you can't stop the run, Priest Holmes can't get on the field.

Andre Woolfolk - CB - Oklahoma

Much needed help in the secondary. A team desperate for defensive help signed CS Ashley Ambrose to a free agent contract. They follow that with Woolfolk to aid a suspect pass defense.

Jerome McDougle - DE - Miami

When you have holes in the secondary, one way to improve is obviously to draft a corner. Another is to draft a pass rusher to give the opposing quarterbacks less time to throw. With these back to back selection, the Saints get the best of both worlds.

Larry Johnson - RB - Penn St.

Antowain Smith just didn't get the job done last season except in spurts when he was pushed. Johnson will push Smith, eventually replacing him for good.

Kenny Peterson - DT - Ohio St.

Peterson will add some heart to a defense that was pushed around. National Champion Ohio State's success was based on heart when few believed in them. He can play defensive end in addition to tackle, which give the Broncos options.

George Foster - OT - Georgia

Carmen Policy is know for making a splash, and drafting an offensive lineman isn't glamorous. Still, this is an area that the Browns need to address throughout the draft.

Kyle Boller - QB - California

They got their defensive tackle at #13, and now get the quarterback. I wouldn't be surprised to see them package draft selection to get Byron Leftwich if he starts to slip. A second round selection and #13 would allow them to move up from #13 and get Leftwich. Then, they would still have this selection and a guy in Byron Leftwich that I think is a perfect match in Chicago. Or, could Willis McGahee go as high as #22?

Michael Haynes - DE - Penn State

A selection received in the Peerless Price trade. A productive player from a quality school.

Mike Doss - S - Ohio State

Defense is much needed. With Dungy in town, defense will become better every year with selections like this.

Ty Warren - DT - Texas A&M

Defensive front wore down and must be addressed. Warren was a main cog in the Texas A&M defense, and he will plug the middle for the Giants.

Jason Witten - TE - Tennessee

Eric Johnson isn't the answer, and is always limping. Witten will soar under Erickson.

Rex Grossman - QB - Florida

Tommy Maddox took a huge hit last year, and was motionless for quite some time. He's 31 years old, a journeyman, and Kordell Stewart left for Chicago. Grossman can learn behind Maddox, and be ready to start in a year or two.

Taylor Jacobs - WR - Florida

Which is the more risky selection-- a wide receiver from Florida or a running back from Penn State? Sooner or later one will hit. Will it be Jacobs? On an aside note: How many Super Bowls would the Titans have in hand had they selected Randy Moss in the draft instead of Kevin Dyson?

Boss Bailey - LB - Georgia

Really, a no-brainer for the Packers if Bailey is still available here.

Dewayne White - DE - Louisville

By now, everyone know the Eagles lost three-time Pro Bowl end Hugh Douglas to the Jaguars. White had production in college but slipped after the combine. Just another body to slam quarterback's head into the ground.

Chris Simms - QB - Texas

Gannon isn't getting any younger, and Simms can sit and learn for a couple of years.

Willis McGahee - RB - Miami

The Raiders take the gamble that every NFL team in the second round is thinking about. Al Davis gets the press he wants, and the Raiders have the luxury of waiting on McGahee to recover.
