Traitors!

Post by Fairweather » Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:20 pm

Is it me or does it seems like the Cowboys have a higher percentage of free agent players still in their prime signing with division rivals than the other way around?

You would unfortunately be correct.

How many have played up to what they were paid after switching sides?

Calvin Hill? - nope - couldn't even break into the starting role and only averaged 3.8 yds per carry.

Deion Sanders? - nope - he retired (the first time) after only one year of a 7 year contract.

Stephen Bowen? - nope - paid 27.5 Mil and didn't do much. He had 6 sacks in the first year, which is fine.. but, after that, nothing.

Jason Hatcher - nope - Also paid 27.5 mil and did even worse than Bowen. 7.5 sacks total in two seasons.

DeMarco Murray - not for the Eagles - he sucked with Kelly, pure and simple.

Dwayne Harris - He's great for a return guy, but, 5 yr / $17,5mil contract? Not even close to worth it.

Chris Canty - Not for that price - 42 Million and resulted in 11 sacks over 4 seasons. That's about 4 million per sack..

Good riddance to traitors!! Let them keep overpaying for the trash.

That makes me feel better! Two other notables of early free agency that stick with me are Ken Norton :x (Conference Rival) and Steve DeOssie :x

Norton leaving was a shame, but it was in end a swap for Charles Haley. I'll take Haley.

I don't know much of DeOssie outside of him being a really good special-teamer.

For the record, the 49ers did get Larry Allen for his last two seasons. I was pissed about that.

Yes DeOssie was a great special teamer and he tended to play very well against us. Didn't we trade for Haley? Norton leaving wouldn't have been nearly as bad if some of his drafted replacments like Robert Jones and Myles Godfrey had been better long-term players for the Cowboys.

I believe Dallas traded a 2nd round pick for Haley, but that's going off memory which can be dangerous. :insane: Whatever it was -- it was a steal.

Yes, we traded a pick for Haley.

Then a year later Norton was released.

I'm just saying in a long way, we gave up Norton for Haley. I'll take that trade all day.

"On August 26, 1992, Haley's volatile temperament and clashes with head coach George Seifert prompted the team to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 1993 second round selection (#56-Vincent Brisby) and a 1994 third round selection (#99-Alai Kalaniuvalu).[6][7]" - Wiki :lipsrsealed: :grouptoast:

A couple of Super Bowls for those two. Haley was a monster and the missing piece to the 'Boys defense. Truly a steal.

I think Haley was the most instinctive lineman I've seen. Smart. I'd definitely have to find a spot for him on my all-time 53. But, God, I hated him as a Forty-Niner. And Fred Dean. And Terrell Owens. And Dwight Clark. And Merton Hanks. And Steve Young...
