Early draft thoughts

Post by sport56 » Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:37 am

Day 1 and 2 priorities based on BPA (so no particular order: BPA):

1. Vince Wilfork type DT
2. Fast WR 6'1"+
3. ORT, move La'el Collins back to OG

Also, if Jerry's wallet opens up, might consider FA signing of Muhammad Wilkerson (Jets)

Wouldn't mind a run stuff DT although Dallas doesn't really consider 1 tech guys as first round picks. Maybe a 3 tech but a LB might be a must in the first depending on what happens with Hitchens.

This draft appears to be heavy at WR and CB. It also appears to be very light at OT and QB. Believe we will see six QBs in the early first then a run on OTs before 19 which could help Dallas. The fun just may start at #1 when Cleveland selects because everyone seems to believe it will be Darnold then Rosen but Allen may enter the picture to throw a wrinkle.

1. Cleveland - Josh Allen QB Wyoming
2. NY Giants - Mason Rudolph OKST
3. Trade NY Jets - Josh Rosen UCLA
4. Cleveland - Barkley RB
5. Trade Buffalo - Sam Darnold USC (Denver signs Cousins in FA)
7. Trade Dolphins - Baker Mayfield Okla
13. Washington - Luke Falk Washington St
15. Arizona - Lamar Jackson Louisville

Think of the guys that would fall if something like this goes down.

Look at what Jacksonville and Miinesota did this year. They were both within one game of the Super Bowl with great defenses and subpar offenses. Let's keep building the D with that big 1 Technique DT that we've all been craving, a fast OLB that plays sideline to sideline, and a stud Safety. We do need another starting caliber O-Lineman and a speedy WR, but maybe we can find a diamond in the rough or sign a free agent or two.

There was a time where we didn't take O-line in the first round either. Demand, availability, and lack of success can change a mindset.

The guys to get are Vea, Settle (I think he's going to shoot up the draft board), or Payne (smaller but effective). As much as I would most want Vea, based on the projections I would grab the elite Texas LB first at #19 (Malik Jefferson) and Settle should be there at #50. There are a couple of other NTs to fall back on later as well if we decide to go S or OL at #50.

What about a solid OT/OG?

Tyron's health is getting more and more suspect every year. I'm projecting he'll be retiring by 2020 if not sooner.
