WR to watch for in 2017 draft combine

Post by sandyf » Mon Nov 07, 2016 11:42 am

Mike Williams 6'3 225 Clemson - if he fell to late first we should grab him
Corey Davis 6'3" 213 Western Michigan - has the tools to be a great WR
Cooper Kupp 6.2" 215 Eastern Michigan - great WR already, not a speed merchant, JGK guy, big team guy, hard worker like Dak and Zeke

All 3 could end up going in the top 40 and Dallas should grab one of them.

What.....no mention of John Ross from Washington? There goes that West coast bias. Lol. Ross is described as a Desean Jackson clone with 4.25 speed. He already has 14 TD's on the season with a few games left. The kid is a stud and will most certainly go in the first round.

I'm liking Ross and Williams but they both will likely be gone if we stay at the bottom of the draft. Ross is a little bigger than Jackson at 5'11" 190 compared to Jackson at 5'10" 175. I think Ross (Odell Beckham Jr. like) and Dez would be scary. Who needs defense, lol?

A lot of people have been saying for years this O needs a WR who can take the top off a D like John Ross but when's the last time we drafted a smallish speed guy especially high in draft?

Antonio Brown is listed as 5'10", 180 lbs. Odell isn't a big WR either. Desean Jackson has been a Cowboy killer in the past. Maybe it's time we start looking at the smaller speed guys who can stretch the field like those guys? If so, Ross is your man.

With Gregory failing another test :shootme: , it's highly unlikely we take a WR now unless there's a run on pass rushers. We still have great prospects in Tapper and Smith for next season. Personally, I'd still go best player available and let Marinelli keep doing his magic (providing he doesn't take a coaching job elsewhere. :crycry: )

Besides Skyker Green last time we took a WR that size is Kevin Williams in 1993 as far as I recall. Being the 5th option on this team behind Zeke, Dez, Witten and Beasley this WR better be able to block in run game and bring something to special teams. A speed receiver is a luxury not a necessity. Being modeled after the physicality we had in the 90's and those teams weren't built on vertical threat WR's ala Al Davis.

I'm not saying we NEED to draft a WR in the first, but if Ross was our guy, he would be an immediate starter opposite Dez. As for special teams, that's what the #4 and #5 WR's are for, not the starters. But he is an excellent kick returner, having returned four kick offs for TD's in his career.

Cole is 5'8, 180 - albeit undrafted.

My man crush is Cooper Kupp so far this year, and that was before I found out a guy I grew up with is on the staff at EWU. But I would prefer if we go D....especially front 7 with the first 2 picks. I don't care what level you play though, 91 catches and 21 TD's as a freshmen is insane on any level.

He has over 6,000 career yards receiving with 68 TD's. Wow! He's built and plays similar to Eric Decker. He's probably a late 2nd, early 3rd round prospect.

Who was that small WR out of Western Michigan (I think it was) that you had a crush on a few years back?
