Senior Bowl 2017 and who Dallas could be watching

Post by sandyf » Wed Jan 25, 2017 11:16 am

These are the guys that I believe McClay and staff will be closely checking out this week.

1. O.J. Howard TE Alabama - if he falls to 28, could be in the mix
2. Tanoh Kpassagnon DE Villanova - tremendous upside and could move to 1st round, betting Dallas takes him in the 2nd if there
3. Antonio Garcia OT Troy - another O line guy that could be in the mix in the 2nd round
4. Desmond King CB Iowa - will be in mix, just worry about his height at 5'10"
5. Carlos Watkins DT Clemson - he is a get to the passer guy inside
6. Jordan Willis DE Kansas St. - talk about the Marinelli/JGK guy he fits to a tee, where and when does he go
7. Justin Evans S Texas A&M - could be an interesting pick second day
8. Cooper Kupp WR Eastern Washington - probably late 2nd day guy so would be interesting
9. Dawuane Smoot DE Illinois - will be in mix 2nd day
10. Obi Melifonwu S UConn - a tall safety that appears to be very fluid, could be 2nd day or early 3rd day guy
11. Chidobe Awuzie CB Colorado - again a 2nd day type of guy
12. Corey Clement RB Wisconsin - a 3rd guy that could be of interest
13. Chad Williams WR Grambling St - probably a 3rd day guy with nice hands, great work ethic

Probably more than these but these all seem to fit not only the schemes we run but the character, work ethic, athletic ability, football smarts that McClay seems to value.

I watched 5 minutes of Senior Bowl coverage yesterday and they had WR vs. DBs...Kupp torched King on a long fade TD, and Mayock was saying how he doubted King's speed could make him a starting CB. Too short (5'10") and too slow, no thanks. Now flip it around and I say this Kupp looks legit, he beat King and then on his next turn he torched some other CB on a slant. Reminds me of Jordy Nelson who I was singing his praises when he came out a few years ago.

Also recently read some article on standout players from the Shrine Bowl...said the UCLA CB (sorry can't remember his name right now) was one, very fluid and has nice size at 6'1", 205.

We're not taking King in the first round. He will make someone happy day two. Loving this draft. If only we had more picks. Will someone please give us a pick or three for Romo if he refuses to back up Dak.

With Claiborne and Carr hitting free agency, we could very well take King.

yes, I'm jaded, but I've watched this guy for years at Iowa. He'd be a tremendous SMART addition to the secondary.
