Hargreaves has the speed to keep up with any wideout and terrific footwork. He shows seamless ability to change directions with opposing receivers, on both inward and outward breaks, and exhibits comfort within his backpedal.
Hargreaves is a natural cover corner with excellent fluidity and light feet to remain in the hip pocket of receivers. He's alert and competitive, positioning his body between the receiver and his quarterback and showing superb body control, including hand-eye coordination, to harass pass-catchers.

"He's a humble kid," notes Brown. "He's a very intelligent kid. He talks about a lot of things other than football. He's interested in a lot of things other than football. But he wants to be the greatest to put on pads, so I'm going to help him get there."

I know some people are down on him because of his size, but he's no midget. He's listed at 5'11" and 199 lbs.......the same size as Darrelle Revis. We'll get a better idea about his actual size at the Combine, but as it stands, his size shouldn't be a detriment.

Hargreaves was compared by one scout to Joe Haden, the ex-Gator cornerback who was the seventh pick in 2010.

"Very smart, very competitive," said one scout. "Gets his hands on a lot of balls. Very physical in the run game."

Since Hargreaves joined the Gators as a five-star recruit, he has been known as a shutdown cornerback. Listed at 5-foot-11, he doesn’t have the size that some top cornerbacks have. He makes up for this with great fundamentals and technique. In his three seasons in Gainesville he intercepted 10 passes. Hargreaves is in the running to be the first cornerback off the board in April. One thing to follow will be how tall he is at the Combine. If he comes in under his listed height, and there are rumors he will, he could fall down draft boards a bit.

Rumors I've seen is most expect him to be in the 5-9s.....so if he's 5-10.....it's 5100.

To some scouts, Hargreaves is regarded as the type of defender who will bait the quarterback when in zone coverage and can break on the ball quickly to make the interception. He times his leaps well and can snatch the pass outside of his frame. However, he plays with more of a cover-corner mentality and it is rare to see him get involved in run support.
Hargreaves can flash physicality as a hitter, but as the 2015 season progressed, more often he was a duck-&-swipe type of tackler. That resulted in him taking too much time getting past the receivers’ blocks when having to attack at the line of scrimmage.

Expert: "Hargreaves has a level of suddenness and explosiveness in his movements that should always have him near the ball. With top-notch ball skills and exceptional instincts that drew praise from Alabama's Nick Saban, Hargreaves possesses the football makeup to become a Pro Bowl cornerback." -- Lance Zierlein, NFL.com.

Strengths:

Quick twitch athlete who can open his hips turn and run with a wide receiver. Hargreaves is smooth in his back pedal and can quickly plant his foot and drive forward without any wasted motion or chopping of his feet. When needed he can reroute and change directions seamlessly. Shows good awareness on the field. Will read the quarterback’s eyes and leave his man and flow to where the ball is thrown. Appears to have long arms with a long reach which helps him jam wide receivers when playing press coverage, at the line of scrimmage. Can jump and highpoint a ball and come down with an interception. Hargreaves does not fear contact as he will come down and stick his head in to attempt to make a tackle. Hargreaves has the added bonus of being able to play special teams and was used on both punt and kickoff returns.

Weakness:

Will struggle versus bigger and more physical receivers due to his lack of height and the fact that he is not what you would consider a physical corner. Can get caught peeking too long into the backfield and have his man run right by him. Does not consistently turn his head and locate the ball while downfield in coverage. Hargreaves is not a form tackler and will instead elect to dive at the ball carriers legs instead of wrapping up and bringing them down. Can get high at times in his backpedal which throws off his balance. Needs to get stronger to help him compete for balls downfield as well as jam at the line of scrimmage.

Hargreaves is a terrific competitor with the instincts and toughness needed for the next level. But he lacks elite size and speed for the position and the Combine will help give scouts a better idea of how he stacks up in both areas. If he measures below 5-10 and 1/2-inches, some NFL teams will not consider him in the first round.

Scouts Inc. ranks Florida CB Vernon Hargeaves as the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Hargeaves is listed as the No. 2 corner, behind No. 2 overall player Jalen Ramsey. "Hargreaves does a good job in press-man coverage by consistently redirecting wide receivers," the crew writes. The Gator "...showed he has the instincts and aggressiveness to develop into a good starting cornerback in the NFL." This is the highest we have seen Hargreaves graded, with other evaluators placing Hargreaves outside of the top three corners behind the likes of Mackensie Alexander and William Jackson III. Hargreaves is certainly a competitive corner but displayed a tendency to lose vertically this season as he could not close the distance on receivers who created a step advantage.

Third-year junior. "I do think he's the best corner," said one scout. "He's a smoother cover guy than Ramsey." Started 37 games and had 10 interceptions. "Very smart, very instinctive," said one scout. "Joe Haden-type player. Gets his hands on a lot of balls. Very physical in the run game. Competitor. Only thing he lacks is Jalen's size.

Fancy footwork: After a sensational prep career, it was not surprising that Hargreaves was an immediate sensation as a true freshman, earning All-SEC honors after 11 pass breakups and three interceptions in 2013. As a sophomore, he led the conference with 13 breakups and three more thefts. Hargreaves has dazzling, blink-quick footwork that is effective in both press and off coverage, where he also displays remarkable peripheral vision and instinct. Hargreaves' lateral quickness and agility were on display at the combine with a 3.98-second time in the short shuttle, second fastest among all cornerbacks at Indianapolis and a better indicator of his ability than his 4.50 time in 40 yards.

Frankly: Here is a tremendous competitor with insanely quick feet and the ability to be explosive closing a gap or soaring for the football. His natural talent is so impressive that NFL teams should ignore concerns about Hargreaves' short and slim stature. Just draft him and sic him on opposing receivers.
