Derek Dooley recruited North while still coach at Tennessee.

North looked like a future NFL player when he flashed his athletic potential as a freshman, starting all 11 games in 2013. He was second on the team with 38 catches and had a team-high 496 yards and a touchdown. His 38 catches are the second-most by a freshman in Tennessee history. His 496 receiving yards are the third-most by a freshman in school history.
After his freshman season it was mostly downhill. North only caught 36 passes for 378 yards during his sophomore and junior season combined. Once known for his ability to stretch the field, North’s longest reception was just 24 yards in those two seasons. Injuries were clearly a factor. North suffered several, unrelated injuries during his sophomore and junior seasons. He caught just six passes for 58 yards this season

North looks the part of an NFL receiver stepping out of the bus, but he had a wildly disappointing Vols career. The 6-foot-4, 224-pounder regressed from 38 catches for 496 yards and a touchdown as a freshman to a 32-320-4 line as a sophomore to only six catches in seven games last season. This year, knee and back injuries ravaged his ability to work into the offense. TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline gave North a Rd. 5 grade in the preseason, but that was before the junior's no-show campaign

4-star wide receiver Marquez North has the prototypical size and speed to be a force in college football, perhaps even as a freshman in 2013. At 6'4", 212 pounds, North—who hails from Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, N.C.)—has captured the attention of many major college programs.

What immediately jumps out on tape is North's ability to get, well, north-and-south. His breakaway speed is breathtaking, and he gets to top speed in a hurry. Cuts look effortless, and North displays deceptive elusiveness. It's easy to see how he ran a 4.41 in the 40-yard dash.

I'm told you can expect a big workout from Marquez North. The Tennessee junior should measure close to 6-foot-4 and near 225 pounds, and could break into the 4.3s in the 40. Many were surprised when North, who struggled with injury last season, entered the 2016 NFL Draft after just six receptions in 2015. Sources tell me North was not happy with him limited involvement in the Volunteers' offense when he was on the field (four starts in seven games), which was part of the reasoning behind his departure.

McShay sees Tennessee WR Marquez North as a good No. 3 option at the NFL level if healthy. Another SEC player w/impressive Combine.
Damn it.

Better than average quickness getting in and out of breaks for his size......He's quick dropping his weight on hook/stick routes......Uses his frame and strength to frequently generate late separation......Attacks ball with hands and doesn't allow it to get into pads......Looks to high point.......Transitions quickly up-field after pluck........Strong enough to consistently make contested catches......Very good body control for his size........Frequently shows ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls and keep feet in-bounds......His size and ability to track the deep ball give him an advantage on 50/50 balls......Times his jumps well.......Possesses adequate speed for his size.....Will break some tackles after the catch.....Takes pride in his blocking......Gets in position, works hard to sustain, and has the size/strength to get movement versus most DBs...........Physical runner after the catch.........Drives legs and fights for yards........... Delivered in a clutch situation with a one-handed catch in a 2013 fourth-quarter comeback against South Carolina..........Has yet to fumble the ball on 68 career receptions to date.

North's talent was obvious in high school, as recruiting services ranked him among the top 10 receivers in the country and a four-star prospect. His athleticism was never in doubt, either, as he was the son of Ramando North, who played in the NFL and CFL and a member of the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic team running the 110-meter hurdles. And in his freshman season, it appeared North was destinated for SEC success. He started 11 games, catching 38 passes for 496 yards (ranking behind only Kelley Washington and Stanley Morgan in the UT books) and scoring once in a Freshman All-SEC campaign. He had a fair sophomore season (30-320, four TD), but then things started going south. He struggled with injuries at the end of the year, and tore his labrum in November.

North could only manage six catches for 58 yards as a junior in 2015, starting the first four games but failing to stay on the field as injuries hampered him. Despite the maladies, North decided to declare for the 2016 draft to see if a change in scenery would allow his natural talent to shine.

PRO DAY RESULTS
40-yard dash: 4.42 seconds
3-cone: 7.22 seconds

Looks the part when he steps off the bus. Has NFL size and reliable, soft hands. Snatches ball away from his frame and gets upfield quickly after the catch. Extended catch radius with ability to adjust high, low or behind him to make the catch. Capable blocker to help spring running game on the perimeter.
